Course Storage Space
CAEN encourages faculty to request additional class directory file space for their students. Windows class directory space is available from CAEN's network-attached storage (NAS) server, accessible at \\caen-course.engin.umich.edu\term\coursename. For example, the directory \\caen-course\w07\eecs270 would house the student directories and class files for EECS 270 during the Winter 2007 term. CAEN also provides permanent NAS space to faculty to be used for preserving course materials or posting information such as course outlines, homework sets and solutions over multiple terms. This space is located at \\caen-course.engin.umich.edu\PERM\coursename.
The amount of space needed is determined by the faculty teaching the course at the start of the term, and can be increased during the term as needed. The general limit for individual student directories is 200 MB. Some courses do not need much space, while others, such as those using large CAD files, may require more.
Faculty who are interested in requesting NAS course space for their students should complete and submit CAEN's Class Directory Request form. Requests for course space are honored only if they come directly from a faculty member or registered instructor of the class. Please allow up to five business days for space creation. Faculty are also responsible for notifying students that course space will be removed at the end of the term.
AFS Course Space
Engineering faculty who would like to obtain AFS storage space for their course can take advantage of services offered by ITCS. ITCS provides instructors with a generous amount of AFS space to store course materials, and post information on the web. This space is commonly located at /afs/umich.edu/class/coursename. To request AFS course space, simply fill out the form listed on the following web page, and submit it to the ITCS Accounts Office:
