Dell Repairs
The CAEN Service Center only accepts repair requests for Apple computers. The Service Center no longer repairs Dell computers. If you have a Dell computer that requires warranty service, you should contact Dell directly, or contact a third-party authorized Dell repair center.
Contacting Dell
If your Dell computer is under warranty, you can contact Dell directly by the two mechanisms listed below. In either case, you must have your Dell Service Tag # (i.e. serial number) to initiate service. Information on how to locate your service tag can be found here. You can check the warranty status of your machine here.
- Calling Dell - You can call Dell at 1-800-WWW-DELL (1-800-999-3355) and select the Service option from the menu.
- On-line support with Dell - You can also initiate an online chat session with a Dell representative: support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/contact_us
Third-party Options
BPI Information Systems -
In Ann Arbor, there are a number of companies that service and support Dell computers. One particular company that is widely used by departments on campus, including the Medical Center, is BPI (http://www.bpiis.com/). BPI can provide both on-site and drop-off Dell repair. In addition, they are an authorized service provider for a number of other PC manufacturers.
To contact BPI, call 1-800-258-4343 and select option #1. They will need to know your computer's service tag/serial number to determine your warranty status and type. You should verify if there will be any charges, and get an estimate before having any service performed. CAEN has been told they have a special University of Michigan Labor Rate for both departmental and personal machines.
