Document Scanners

Epson Perfection 4490 document scanners are placed in several locations on North Campus, in CAEN computer labs and the Duderstadt Center. To find out which labs have a scanner available, see our CAEN lab comparison chart.

It is quick and easy to scan your photos or documents using the Adobe Photoshop & Epson Scan applications. Follow these simple steps:

Scanning with Adobe Photoshop

Ensure that the scanner is turned on:

Turn Scanner On

Start Adobe Photoshop (Start >> All Programs >> Multimedia Applications >> Adobe Photoshop). To scan from within Adobe Photoshop, select Import from the File menu, and then select Epson Perfection 4490... The Epson Scan window will appear in Full Auto Mode:

Place your document on the scanner; the images or text you would like to scan should face down:

To quickly change the resolution of your scanned images, click the Customize... button in the Epson Scan window. The Customize window will appear:

When you are ready, click OK in the Customize window, then click the Scan button in the Epson Scan window, as shown above. The scanned image of your document should now open in Adobe Photoshop as a JPEG file.

Professional Scanning

If you would like to further modify the properties of your scanned image, such as the color or document size, you can select Professional Mode from the Mode drop-down menu in the Epson Scan window:

Further Help

Instructions on how to use the Epson Scan software can be found at the Epson Perfection 4490 web site. If you have problems using the scanners in CAEN computer labs, please contact the CAEN Hotline.
