Camp CAEN FAQ - Travel and Housing Information

For driving directions, refer to the Directions FAQ.

Airport Transportation

If you are flying to camp and need transportation from the airport to camp, you can contact Ann Arbor Premiere Airport Shuttle Service at (734)394-1665, or visit their web site at  www.annarborairportshuttle.net for information about transportation services. The charge for the shuttle service is $50 round trip.  Camp staff will be in direct communication with the Shuttle service at all times so that we will know when campers are picked up by the Shuttle. This is the same Shuttle service that is used by the University of Michigan for students coming in for Freshman Orientation. If you would also like a Camp Counselor to accompany the Shuttle to the airport to escort your camper, this can be arranged.  There will be an additional $50 round trip charge for this service.

We request that you submit a flight itinerary to Camp CAEN so that the staff knows when to expect you or can find out if your flight was delayed. You may send it via postal mail to the Camp CAEN Office (2318 Duderstadt Center, 2281 Bonisteel Blvd, Ann Arbor, MI 48109), or email it to campcaen@umich.edu or fax it to 734-615-3011.

Housing and Meals

Housing will be provided in Bursley Residence Hall on North Campus. Bursley Hall is located one block from the North Campus Commons at 1931 Duffield Street at the corner of Murfin and Duffield.

Residence hall move-in will occur between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on the first Sunday of your session. Residential facilitators will be available to help you. You will have one roommate. CAEN counseling staff will be occupying rooms nearby. Unfortunately, the rooms are not air-conditioned so you may wish to bring a small fan. Weather in Ann Arbor for the summer months can range from mild and pleasant to very hot and humid.

The rooms are equipped with desks, chairs, beds, lamps, and dressers. The residence hall provides sheets, pillows and blankets and free linen service is available once a week. Coin operated laundry facilities are available at the residence hall; bring a roll of quarters if you plan on doing laundry. You may bring a desktop or laptop computer to camp. Please do not leave your computer unattended at any time, Camp CAEN will not be held responsible for lost or stolen laptops. Network connections are available in the dorm rooms and the Duderstadt Center (formerly known as the Media Union), however you will need to have Ethernet capability to take advantage of it. Also note that if your roommate also has a laptop you will need to take turns using the connection or bring/rent a hub with which to share the connection.

If you will need to leave camp (perhaps to visit friends in the area), please have your parents write a letter of permission stating who will be picking you up and the time period you expect to be absent. You may bring the letter with you or fax it to the CAEN Office at 734-615-3011.

A phone is available in each residence hall room for incoming and local calls. Each camper will have his or her own phone number, which can be found on the room phone. Long distance calls must be “collect” or placed using a credit card or long distance phone card. (Convenient, prepaid phone cards are available at many retailers.) If you cannot be reached by phone, your parents may leave a message at the Bursley front desk, 734-763-1140, until 10:00 p.m. Letters may be addressed to:

Camp CAEN — Student Name
Bursley Hall
1931 Duffield St.
Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2094

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are provided in the Bursley cafeteria daily. Each meal offers a full all-you-can-eat buffett with multiple choices of entrees. (Weekends will have some meals provided out). You should not need to order any meals, so any campus delivery meals you choose to order will be at your own expense. You will not be permitted to bring a car while participating in the program. The University provides free buses all over campus. In addition, CAEN staff will provide transportation with University vehicles to off campus recreational activities. CAEN student staff counselors will provide supervision at all times.

You will be required to vacate your room by 11 a.m. on the last Friday of the session. Your belongings will be stored for you until you leave. Parents and family are invited to an open house presentation from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on that day. If you will be leaving on your own or with someone besides a parent, you will need to have your parents send written permission.
