Camp CAEN Resident Checklist
Morning
- Alarm Clock: Although it may seem trivial, having an alarm clock to wake you up in the morning is a must.
- Shower Items: Towels, shampoo, soap, brush, comb, shower shoes.
- Bathroom Items: Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving supplies, contact/glasses.
Clothes
- General Attire: Shirts (both short and long sleeved), pants, socks, underwear, shoes.
- Swimming Attire: Swimsuit, towels, goggles.
- Outdoor Attire: Long sleeved shirts, outdoor pants (an older pair that you can afford to get dirty), bug spray.
- Athletic Attire: Shorts, gym shirt, gym shoes.
Classroom
- Writing: Pens, pencils, highlighters.
- Note Taking: Notebook, scratch paper
- Travel: Backpack or book bag
Miscellaneous
- Medications: Be sure to bring at least two week supply any medications you are prescribed.
- Large Fan: The dorms can heat up quite a bit with the summer heat, two people in the room and both computers cooking.
- Detergent: The washing machines do not have their own detergent, fabric softener, etc.
- Quarters: A must to operate the washing machines ($1.00) and dryers ($0.50).
- Spending money: Money for ordering out, buying snacks, for the coffee shop, getting U of M paraphernalia, or for the weekend.
- Extra cables: Especially extension cords, power strips and network (ethernet) cable.
- Water Gun: For the last Thursday of camp's big water fight. Also very good for the pool.
Camp Niceties
- Sun Block: Especially for those who burn easily in the sun.
- Bathrobe: Definitely not needed, but very nice for after showering.
- Snacks: Nice for the in dorm munchies.
- Drinks: Same as snacks, but for when the thirst hits.
- Entertainment: The dorms do not have TVs, but many computers have TV in features, so gaming consoles are nice, and so are decks of cards.
- Linens: Camp provides standard issue sheets, blankets and pillows, but most find it nice to have their own.
Computer Necessities if you Bring a Computer: (THIS IS NOT REQUIRED!)
- Computer: Almost any power and operating system is fine, be sure to include a monitor.
- Ethernet Card: A standard 10 base T ethernet adapter.
- Ethernet Hub: A must for having two or more computers in a room.
- Ethernet Cable: A patch cable to get from the jack to your hub, and from the hub to the computers. Two 10 foot cables per person should be fine.
- Power Cables: Computer, monitor, hub, speaker, etc power cables, as well as surge protectors.
- Accessories: Mouse, keyboard and monitor at least.
- Drivers: Hardware drivers for your equipment.
- System Software: Operating system software, backup software, etc.
Note: CAEN is not responsible for broken, lost, or stolen laptops or other equipment.
Computer Niceties:
- Tools: Screwdrivers, wrenches, IC tools etc.
- Speakers: Any sound system.
- UPS: Uninterruptible power supply.
- Software: Applications and games.
