Meet the Camp CAEN 2008 Staff!

Our staff includes University of Michigan engineering staff and students including several PhD candidates. Many students return to camp year after year, and many go on to become University computer science and engineering students. In fact, several former campers are now instructors! Here is some information about our current staff for the upcoming season. All Staff and CIT positions for this summer have been filled.

Ann Gordon, the Director of Camp CAEN, started the camp program in 1994. She holds a M.S.E. degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan and also holds a degree in Education. Her main interests are Web Design, Web Development, Computer Graphics, and Photography.

Scott Ash is a professional graphic artist whose interests include 3D modeling, animation, and web development. Scott is looking forward to sharing his multitude of talents with young people.

Nick Beier is a former long time Camp CAEN student, and is now an undergraduate student at the UM College of Engineering. He is currently studying Computer Science but hopes to find a career in teaching. His hobbies include cycling, photography, and ultimate frisbee. http://nickbeier.net

computer camp staff Adam Hinkhouse is another Camp CAEN former student. He is now an undergraduate engineering student at the University of Kansas. Adam will be an instructor in the Introductory Java classes this summer.
computer camp staff Mark Ito’s long-time involvement with Camp CAEN, including years as a camper, Counselor-In-Training, and staff, led him to the University of Michigan where he is entering his third year as a Computer Engineering student in the College of Engineering. He is a big fan of professional and college (Michigan) football. Outside of the relentless barrage of circuits and programming he studies as a computer engineer, Mark likes to play tennis and ultimate Frisbee, weather permitting. As the lead instructional coordinator this year, Mark looks forward to meeting and interacting with everyone attending camp.

Samantha Schumacher is a former Camp CAEN student /CIT who is now a student at the U-M College of Engineering. Sam loves sports cars and working on them. She also likes to build computers and trouble-shoot programming problems to help others with their computer dilemmas. She also enjoys sketching, music, video games, going to the movies and hanging out with her friends. Sam will be the lead counselor this year the residence halls.

computer camp staff Rich Franklin is also a U-M College of Engineering undergraduate student who previously attended Camp CAEN as a camper. Rich will be helping teach the C# classes this summer.

Mitchell Bloch is a U-M Engineering upperclassman who will be the lead instructor for the Advanced C++ Game Development class this year. He is currently building his own cross-platform 3D game engine that uses OpenGL and DirectX 9. MItchell is currently the President of Wolverine Soft, the video game development student group at the University of Michigan http://entity.eecs.umich.edu/~wsoft/.

computer camp staff Jeff Weiner is a U-M College of Engineering undergraduate student who also previously attended Camp CAEN as a student. A talented programmer himself, Jeff will be helping out with the Intermediate C++ (AI) and Advanced C++ (Game Dev) classes.
computer camp staff Eric Wustrow is studying Computer Engineering at UM, and has interests in both hardware and software. He enjoys programming, ultimate frisbee, playing guitar and mandolin, and running a web-server out of a cardboard box. http://hobocomp.com
 Tyler Sanderson Tyler Sanderson is a sophomore at the University of Michigan majoring in Computer Science.  He is a C++ programmer by heart and has a particular interest in Artificial Intelligence. Tyler rows on the Mens crew team and enjoys ultimate frisbee and guitar playing.
 John Tremuth John Treumuth is a senior at the University of majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. John attended as a student for three years, and he has taught classes for the past two years.  This year John will resume his position as the lead instructor for Topics in Game Design and Advanced Web Wokshop.
