Employment Overview
CAEN, the College-level provider of information technology services, has entry-level and advanced temporary employment opportunities for students. Student employees will gain experience in a wide variety of roles that administer and support the College of Engineering's information technology environment. Many positions offer on-the-job training that allow interested and committed students to attain positions of increasing responsibility. The most experienced and best-performing students may achieve positions of equal responsibility to permanent technical staff. CAEN understands the demands on students' time and is able to accommodate flexible work hours around class schedules, examination preparation, and course projects to support the academic success of their student employees.
Student positions become available and are filled throughout the year in the following areas:
- operations
- the CAEN Hotline
- applications support
- data networking
- systems and infrastructure
- web services
- instructional technology
The starting pay rate for our student employees is $8.25. The actual rate depends upon relevant experience and qualifications. Students are also eligible for raises once they demonstrate their abilities.
Students from all U-M schools and colleges with varying levels of experience, including students with work-study awards, are encouraged to submit employment applications. Applicants who are able to make at least a two-year commitment will have a greater selection of positions because of the time it takes to develop proficiency in many of the areas where students are employed.
To apply, you will need to submit an online Student Employment Application. Your application will be kept on file for six months. If you are not contacted about a position within this time, you are encouraged to re-apply.
