Computing Accounts at the College of Engineering
As members of the College of Engineering community, individuals may receive access to the wealth of of computing services provided by CAEN. CAEN provides the College of Engineering with a comprehensive set of computing technologies that support its instructional, research, administrative and service missions. Acquiring access to these computing resources (often referred to as having a CAEN Account) grants individuals access to certain services based on their affiliation to the CoE. All CAEN computing accounts, including "limited" accounts, provide:
- Remote access to CAEN's Linux Login Servers, and
- Access to CAEN's VNC services
Services that are only available to "full" account holders include:
- 24-hour access to CAEN computer labs
- 24-hour access CAEN servers on Virtual Sites
- A printing allocation for use in CAEN computer labs
- A large amount of personal data storage space
For more information on eligibility and restrictions, please see our Account Eligibility page, or contact the CAEN Hotline at 764-CAEN.
Note: Individuals who obtain access to CAEN computing services are subject to CAEN policies and regulations. These policies are outlined in the CAEN Conditions of Use.
ITCS Computing Accounts
Students, faculty and staff of the College of Engineering are also eligible for the centralized computing and email account provided by Information Technology Central Services (ITCS). This is the primary computing account for most of the U-M community (often referred to as a UMICH account) and provides a Basic Computing Package (BCP) for access to campus-wide resources, such as email (mail.umich.edu) and online file storage (mfile.umich.edu). In addition, since access to CAEN computing resources is delegated using ITCS passwords for authentication, individuals need to obtain their ITCS account and passwords prior to requesting a CAEN account.
Further information on ITCS accounts can be found on their web site at:
