CAEN Account Eligibility
- To obtain a CAEN Account, an individual's role at the College of Engineering must fall into one of the groups listed below.
- Based on their role, access to certain CAEN services may or may not be available.
- All individuals must be active and in good standing with the University and the College, as verified by official records via Wolverine Access.
- These eligibility restrictions are in place ensure the proper use of College of Engineering information technology resources, and that the College is in compliance with software vendor licenses as outlined in the U-M Standard Practice Guide section 601.3-1.

Eligibility Details
Full CAEN Accounts are available to individuals with the following College of Engineering affiliations:
1. Students Enrolled in Courses:
- Students with a declared major in the College of Engineering who are enrolled in a U-M course during the current term.
- Students with a declared major in the Master of Entrepreneurship program who are enrolled in a U-M course during the current term.
- LSA students with a declared major in Computer Science, Applied Physics, or Informatics who are enrolled in a U-M course during the current term.
- LSA Geological Science students with a declared concentration in Earth System Science and Engineering (ESSE) who are enrolled in a U-M course during the current term.
- College of Engineering Ph.D. students who are enrolled as candidates or pre-candidates (section 995, entitled "Diss-Cand" in Wolverine Access). Eligibility is validated on a term-by-term basis.
- Visiting Scholars (Visiting Graduate Students managed by Rackham) whose appointment is current and active in the College of Engineering. These individuals do not receive access to Virtual Sites (see below).
4. Non-Engineering Students Enrolled in Engineering Courses:
- Non-Engineering students who are enrolled in a College of Engineering course during the current term.
- Non-Engineering students who are enrolled in a U-M course that is cross-listed with a College of Engineering course during the current term.
5. Non-Engineering Members of Student Teams:
- Non-Engineering students who are members of an Engineering Student Team, and are enrolled in a U-M course during the current term. These individuals do not receive a supplemental printing allocation. More details...
- Regular (non-temporary) faculty and staff, including professors emeriti, whose appointment has a status of "Active" in the College of Engineering. These individuals do not receive a supplemental printing allocation.
Limited CAEN Accounts do not include many of the services available with Full accounts, such as access to CAEN computer labs. Individuals with the following College of Engineering affiliations may, however, access any CAEN computer located in the Duderstadt Center:
7. Students Enrolled in a Co-op or Study Abroad Program:
- College of Engineering students who are enrolled in Cooperative Education Engineering (Co-op) through the Engineering Career Resource Center (ECRC) during the current term.
- College of Engineering students who are enrolled in a U-M study abroad program through International Programs in Engineering (IPE) during the current term.
- Temporary employees of the College of Engineering, including GSRA, whose appointment is current and has a status of "Active."
9. Outreach Program Attendees:
- Coordinators of College of Engineering Outreach Programs may request limited CAEN computer lab access for their program attendees. Access will only be granted to the lab(s) during the times they have been reserved for the program. More details...
* Virtual Sites Access Restrictions
While CAEN maintains access to the individual CAEN computers hosted on Virtual Sites, access to the Virtual Sites main login page is maintained by ITS. Individuals who ITS deems are not eligible for access to Virtual Sites (e.g. Visiting Scholars) will not be able to use these CAEN computers. Visit the ITS Virtual Sites instructions for additional information on these access restrictions.
** Eligibility for Supplemental Printing Allocation
Eligibility for the supplemental printing allocation is determined each term based on student enrollment records. This means that while other CAEN Account services may be active, students who are not enrolled during a given term will not receive the additional printing allocation.
