Obtaining a CAEN Account

People Using CAEN Computers

Students - Most new, incoming College of Engineering (CoE) students receive their CAEN computing access during Summer orientation. However, if you are a currently enrolled CoE student and have not yet received your CAEN access, you must visit the CAEN Hotline. This includes visiting scholars.

Non-Engineering students who are taking Engineeing courses and require a CAEN account should also visit the Hotline; a fee may be charged for the account.

Be sure to bring your Mcard with you to prove your identity and provide us with your UM ID #. Note: Access to CAEN resources cannot be issued unless a student's enrollment can be verified by some University mechanism, such as Wolverine Access or MAIS.

Faculty & Staff - New College of Engineering faculty and staff also receive their CAEN computing access from the CAEN Hotline. In order to expedite the verification of employment at the CoE, the Hotline asks that faculty and staff members bring their Mcard and additional proof of employment status, such as a memo on CoE letterhead that has been signed by their departmental supervisor or administrator. Alternatively, designated departmental administrators may use the CAEN account request form, in lieu of a memo. Note: Access to CAEN resources cannot be issued unless employment can be verified by some University mechanism, such as Wolverine Access or MAIS.

Additional Note: Access to CAEN computing resources is delegated using ITCS Kerberos (UMICH.EDU) and Active Directory (UMROOT) passwords for authentication. All individuals should obtain their ITCS computing account and passwords prior to requesting access to CAEN computing resources.
