Martin and Shyy Are New Department Chairs

Bill Martin, professor, Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences (NERS), and Wei Shyy, formerly professor and chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida, have been appointed department chairs of NERS and Aerospace Engineering, respectively.

Martin (BSE engineering physics ‘67, MSE NERS ‘75, PhD ‘76) served previously as NERS chair from 1990-1994 and associate dean for academic affairs from 1994-1999. His numerous honors include the American Society for Engineering Education’s Glenn Murphy Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Profession and Teaching of Nuclear Engineering. The American Nuclear Society elected him a Fellow in 1995.
Shyy (MSE ‘81, PhD ‘82), Clarence L. "Kelly" Johnson Collegiate Professor of Aerospace Engineering, is widely recognized as a leading researcher in the areas of computational and modeling techniques involving fluid flow, interfacial dynamics and moving boundary problems. He has extensive experience with both nationally based research consortia and international relations. Among his honors are the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) 2003 Pendray Aerospace Literature Award. He’s a Fellow of the AIAA and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
