Four Elected to National Academy of Engineering

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is one of the highest honors an engineer can receive in this country.

Steven Goldstein, Henry Ruppenthal Family Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Bioengineering, and professor, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, was elected for his contributions to the understanding of bone micromechanical and remodeling behaviors and their translations into gene therapies and fracture fixations.

Yoram Koren, Paul G. Goebel Professor of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, was elected for his \'d2contributions to the science, education and practice of manufacturing through innovations in reconfigurable manufacturing systems, robotics and manufacturing system control.\'d3 In addition, the Institute of Systems, Control and Information Engineers selected Koren to receive the 2004 Hideo Hanafusa Outstanding Investigator Award.

Tresa Pollock, L. H. and F. E. Van Vlack Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, was elected for her \'d2contributions to the understanding of the processing and performance of advanced metallic materials.

Ralph Yang, Dwight F. Benton Professor of Chemical Engineering, was elected for developing the theory, methods and materials for the removal of environmentally hazardous compounds from transportation fuels and other difficult separations.
