Computer Aided Engineering Network
As the College of Engineering grew, so too did its need for a comprehensive set of computing resources that addressed its many instructional, research, administrative and outreach needs. The answer arrived in 1983, when the Computer Aided Engineering Network (CAEN) provided the College with much-needed distributed networking and information technology. The unit helped make communications throughout the College more efficient. Research activity increased and, in general, the educational experience improved. CAEN expanded its reach and its influence by connecting the University of Michigan's computing networks and MichNet, a regional network operated by Merit Network, Inc.
