Blurring the Lines Between Research and Education
The technological revolution has changed the nature of research. Investigators can now see subatomic particles that not long ago were impossible to detect. They can peer farther into space than they were formerly able to do. Cameras can travel through the bloodstream. New imaging techniques enable researchers to watch a brain function as it instructs an arm to move. This research, in turn, has changed Michigan Engineering education by exposing students to advanced investigative techniques and the latest findings. These are educational opportunities that exist outside the classroom and are invaluable in the development of today's engineers.
