Solar Car Team Recognition

solar1webOn Wednesday, December 7, the College will honor the North American-champion Solar Car Team with a brief program and reception at the Duderstadt Center at 4 p.m. During their November meeting, the University's Regents honored the team with a resolution for its championship and third-place finish at the World Solar Challenge.




President Emeritus Duderstadt Honored

duderstadtwebThe NACME (National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering) presented Emeritus President and Dean Jim Duderstadt with its 2005 Reginald Jones Award for distinguished service. Duderstadt directed the $10,000 honorarium that accompanies the award to the College's Summer Engineering Academy to encourage more young people to pursue careers in engineering.

Robbie Duerr's Story

A father's health crisis resulting in permanent disability, compounded by family business and personal bankruptcies, stood between Pennsylvania high-school student Robbie Duerr and the University of Michigan. But thanks to scholarship donors' generosity, today Robbie is a third-year biomedical engineering student with plans to attend medical school. Help other students like Robbie by supporting the Michigan Engineering Fund.

Tax Change for 2005

On September 23, President Bush signed into law the Katrina Emergency Relief Act of 2005. The new law temporarily suspends the limitation of the charitable deduction for cash contributions of 50 percent of a donor's adjusted gross income. From now until the end of the calendar year, donors may deduct cash gifts up to 100 percent of their adjusted gross income.

Couch Endows Professorship for Father

John C. Couch (BSE NAME '63, MSE '64), president and CEO of C.M. Capital Corporation, announced a $2-million gift to the College during this month's celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. The gift will fund the Richard B. Couch Professorship in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, in memory of his father, a former chair of the department.
