1. Jim Bean Appointed Associate Dean Academic Affairs

Jim Bean, former associate dean for graduate education, has been appointed associate dean for academic affairs. He is the founder of the Engineering Global Leadership honors program and former Ford Motor Company Co-Director of the Tauber Manufacturing Institute (TMI).

2. Stella Pang Appointed Associate Dean Graduate Education

Stella Pang, EECS, has been appointed associate dean for graduate education, pending Regental approval. Pang is the program director for the interdisciplinary professional program in Integrated Microsystems. She recently developed the Master of Engineering program in Integrated Microsystems. She succeeds Jim Bean.

3. New Interdisciplinary Professional Programs (InterPro) Appointments

Romesh Saigal, IOE, has been appointed director, Interdisciplinary Professional Programs (InterPro). Saigal is the program director for the interdisciplinary program in Financial Engineering.

Jack Hu, ME, has been appointed director, Program in Manufacturing. He is deputy director of the S.M. Wu Manufacturing Research Center. He earned M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University

4. Clark Nguyen, Gerard Mourou Receive University Recognition

Clark Nguyen, EECS, will receive the University's 2002 Henry Russel Award to recognize his "distinguished scholarship . . . and conspicuous ability as a teacher."

Gerard A. Mourou, EECS, will give the 2002 Henry Russel Lecture in recognition of his exceptional achievements in research and scholarship and an outstanding record of teaching, mentoring and service.

6. CoE Student Carries Olympic Flame

Only 5% of the 200,000 people in the United States nominated to carry the winter Olympic flame actually get to do so. One of those was Leslie Lamberson (BSE AERO '04, BFA/BDA). Leslie took the torch across a stretch of northern Indiana on January 4. Leslie was a 4.0 student throughout high school and has been a dancer since the age of five.

7. Join the Student-Alumni Network

Help a student. Participate in the Michigan Engineering Student/Alumni Network. Alumni participants enter information about themselves into a database searchable by major, industry or region. Students seek out these experienced Michigan Engineers for educational and career advice. E-mail or call (734) 647-7160 to request your registration password today.

8. Emeritus, Alumni Weekend Dates Set

Save these dates! The Class of '52E will celebrates its golden anniversary this year. The Class of '47E will celebrate its 55th reunion. All Emeritus alumni are invited back to campus for Emeritus Weekend, May 31-June 1, 2002. Michigan Engineering Alumni Weekend will be October 24-26, 2002. See highlights from the 2001 Weekend.

9. Support Students: Give Online

The Michigan Engineering Fund supports the exceptional resources, programs and facilities that set Michigan Engineering apart as a leader. Recently, gifts to the Fund have provided scholarships, equipped classrooms with new technology, and supplied new equipment for laboratories. Please support students with a gift to the Michigan Engineering Fund online.
