Short Bio

Ashwani Padthe is a Research Investigator in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. His research interests are Rotorcraft Aeromechanics which encompasses the technical disciplines of dynamics, aerodynamics, acoustics, and control; Helicopter and Fixed-wing Flight Dynamics and Control; Unsteady Aerodynamics; Aeroservoelasticity; Structural Dynamics.

He worked on a new on-blade vibration and noise control device called the microflap as part of his PhD dissertation under Prof. Peretz Friedmann’s guidance. Through comprehensive aeroelastic simulations, the microflap was shown to be as effective as any of the other active control devices while consuming significantly lower power. His paper on “A Computational Study of Microflaps with Application to Vibration Reduction in Helicopter Rotors” was awarded the 2009 ASME/Boeing Best Paper Award at the 51st AIAA SDM conference. After completing his PhD, he worked as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow where he studied the mutual interaction between the on-blade vibration control and the pilot flight control systems.
