Application Fee Information

A non-refundable application fee is required of all applicants except students who have matriculated as U-M undergraduates. Credit card and E-check payments are accepted through Embark's online payment system.

Fee Amounts:
  • US Mailing address $40
  • International mailing address $55
  • U-M Students (Ann Arbor, Dearborn or Flint) $0
Checklist of Supplemental Documents
  • High school transcript (only if you are an External Transfer applicant)
  • Results of ACT, SAT and AP tests (only if you are an External Transfer applicant)
  • Any placement examination results, if taken on the U-M Ann Arbor campus
  • All transcripts from colleges outside of the U-M Ann Arbor campus (ask your institutions to mail your transcripts in sealed and signed envelopes directly to the address shown at the bottom of this page). Students in other U-M Ann Arbor schools or colleges must submit original transcripts from all classes taken at other institutions of higher education.
  • Syllabi for engineering courses not previously evaluated (courses not show on the
U-M College of Engineering database of course equivalencies [actively link to http://www.engin.umich.edu/transferdatabase/index.jsp]

In addition, International Students must submit the following
  • Copy of Secondary school diploma, transcript or certificate
  • Any A-level, IB or AP test scores (if taken)
  • Syllabi (in English) for all post-secondary classes taken outside of the U.S.
  • Proof of English Proficiency: All international students and applicants from Puerto Rico must prove proficiency in English at least at the minimal levels. Scores are valid for two (2) years.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
PBT (paper-based TOEFL) 570-600 (section scores of at least 57)
CBT (computer-based TOEFL) 230-250 (section scores of at least 23)
iBT (internet-based TOEFL) 88-106 (section scores of at least 23 on reading, listening, and speaking, and at least 21 on writing).
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) 80-85
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) 6.5-7.0
  • Financial Resource Statement
  • Proof of financial backing (Submit most current statement(s). Documents valid for six (6) months).

Savings Account Bank Statement-- statement must have the exact amount on account in savings account. Investments

Mature Bonds-has to be maturing on a date prior to arrival in the US. Financial Affidavits of support (These do not substitute for FRS or Guaranteed Backing forms).
Annual salary statement of sponsor. Sponsor insurance.
Stock, bonds, equity, or security statements.

  • If applicant is currently studying in the U.S. provide a copy of:
    • I-94 Card
    • I-20 from current school
