International Transfer Student Checklist
If you are an International Transfer Student and will be requiring an I-20 for F-1 student VISA then you will need the following:
The following is what is looked at to determine your admission:
- Completed University of Michigan College of Engineering International Transfer Application
- Official transcripts from the university that you have attended
- Course descriptions and syllabi from all classes taken at any universities outside of the US
- Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL or MELAB exam scores)
- High School/secondary school transcript/certificate or copy of diploma
- AP, IB, or A-Level exam scores, if any were taken
- Financial Resource Statement
- Proof of Funding (official bank statement) for one full year of study (two full semester terms)
- Copy of current I-20 if attending a US college or university
If you are an International Transfer Student, such as Permanent Resident or holder of a Green Card, NOT requiring an I-20 for F-1 student VISA then you will need the following:

- Completed University of Michigan College of Engineering Transfer Application
- Official transcripts from all universities that you have attended
- Course descriptions and syllabi from all classes taken at any universities outside of the U.S.
- High school/secondary school transcript/certificate or copy of diploma
- AP, IB or A-Level exam scores, if any were taken
- You may or may not be required to provide proof of English proficiency (TOEFL or MELAB exam scores).
If you are an International Transfer Student and will be requiring an IAP- 66 for J-1 student VISA, then you will need the following:
The following is what is looked at to determine your admission:
- Completed University of Michigan College of Engineering International Transfer Application
- Official transcripts from the university that you have attended
- Course descriptions and syllabi from all classes taken at any universities outside of the U.S.
- Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL or MELAB exam scores)
- High school/secondary school transcript/certificate or copy of diploma
- AP, IB or A-Level exam scores, if any were taken
- Financial Resource Statement
- Proof of Funding (sponsor letter for verification of governmental funding) for one full year of study (two full semester terms)
- Copy of current IAP-66 if attending a U.S. college or university
- Copy of your I-94 white card on or with your passport
- One additional piece of IAP-66 paperwork, which we will provide to you
