Please review the information regarding additional materials required to complete an application. Important note: Materials should be sent to the College of Engineering Office of Recruitment and Admissions, not  the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Address supplemental materials to:

Application Fee Information

A non-refundable application fee is required of all applicants except students who have matriculated as U-M undergraduates. Credit card and E-check payments are accepted through Embark's online payment system.

Fee Amounts:

  • US Mailing address $40
  • International mailing address $55
  • U-M Students (Ann Arbor, Dearborn or Flint) $0

All College of Engineering transfer applicants need to supply the following in order for an application to be considered complete:

  • Submitted Web Application (includes uploaded resume, essay, and up-to-date biographical information)
  • Application fee
  • Official college transcripts from all institutions attended

External domestic and international transfer applicants (not LS&A transfer students) also need to provide:

  •  High School transcript
  • Results of any AP or IB tests
  • Results of ACT or SAT test - if available

Non-native speakers of English also need to supply:

  • Official TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS test scores

Applicants with credit from any international College or University also need to supply:

  • Official college transcripts in English (official translations are accepted)
  • Course descriptions and syllabi (in English) for all coursework taken outside of the U.S.  (We will not translate the material for you). PDF format is preferred. Email to enginrta@umich.edu
  • The following course materials may be required for courses that have not been previously evaluated for transfer credit: homework assignments, projects, quizzes, exams, course textbook name & author, course contact hours including lecture and/or lab hours per week, or any other information that is deemed necessary to evaluate a course for transfer.
  • The Supplemental Course Materials form must accompany course descriptions, syllabi, and other course material submitted with an application.
International applicants seeking an F-1 or J-1 visa also need to supply:
  • Completed Financial Resources Statement
  • Financial backing documentation (dated within 1 year at term of enrollment). All documents must be in original form and/or copies certified by the issuer. Original documents must be in English, or accompanied by an official English translation.
  • Copy of biological page of passport
  • Copy of current I-20 and I-94 if currently studying in the U.S.
 The following table outlines acceptable and unacceptable types of financial backing:

Savings Account Bank Statement-- statement must have the exact amount on account in savings account. Investments, property and or personal assets such as land, buildings, jewelry
Checking Account Bank Statement-- statement must have the exact amount on account in checking account. Tax Returns
Mature Bonds - acceptable as long as certificate matures by the end of first term of enrollment. Financial Affidavits of support (These do not substitute for FRS or Guaranteed Backing forms).

Employer Letter - must specify sponsor's annual salary.

Sponsor insurance or insurance premiums
 Accounts must be easily accessible and liquid assets. Stock, bonds, equity, or security statements.
