Performing Arts Technology
The Center for Performing Arts and Technology and the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, in partnership with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the College of Engineering announce an opening for a tenure-track professor (open rank) in Performing Arts Technology.
The University of Michigan is a leader in interdisciplinary teaching and research at the undergraduate and graduate level. The Performing Arts Technology curricula encompass programs in music technology, the media arts, and sound engineering and draws from the disciplines of music; theatre; dance; engineering; art and design; and screen arts and cultures. State of the art media studios and laboratories support the curricula and research initiatives
The successful candidate will take a leadership role in forging alliances between the Center for Performing Arts Technology and the College of Engineering through the design and development of interfaces with interactive models that extend artistic expression through research and performance. The candidate should have experience in any of the following areas: digital audio signal processing, multimedia, haptic music controllers, human computer interface design for interactiv media, and gesture-controlled networks.
The candidate will have appointments in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance and the College of Engineering. The individual will teach undergraduat and graduate courses in technological applications in the performing arts and may include courses in interdisciplinary collaboration, digitial signal processing, design labs or engineering applications of media technologies.
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in the performing arts and/or engineering.
- Credentials in both the performing arts and engineering through earned degrees and/or commensurate experience.
- Evidence of successful teaching and research experience.
Rank is open (Assistant, Associate or Professor commensurate with experience).
