The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, as part of its initiative on sustainable and high performance infrastructure systems, is looking for two faculty candidates in the general area of Infrastructure Systems and the Built Environment. One position targets Structural Engineering candidates who focus on the design of high-performance and sustainable infrastructure systems. The other position targets candidates in the area of Construction Engineering and Management of the built environment, with an emphasis on bridging with other disciplines (defined in more detail below). These positions complement each other because they encompass the full range of the built-environment spectrum (design-construct-manage) and reflect our department's integrated activities across this spectrum. The positions are expected to be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. However, exceptional candidates who qualify may be considered at the rank of full Professor. Applicants should have an appropriate earned doctorate, and those applying for an Associate Professor or Professor position must have a well-established academic record, including publications and research funding.

Structural Engineering: Applicants with expertise in the following areas are particularly welcomed: innovative and hybrid structural systems designed to resist the effects of extreme loading (e.g. blasts and earthquakes); reliability-based design and assessment of large-scale infrastructural systems, including probabilistic hazard modeling; the use of non-traditional and smart materials for the design of new and upgrading of existing infrastructural systems; and sustainability, including all aspects that result in energy efficient and lower resource-demanding structural systems.

Construction Engineering and Management: Applicants should be competent in applying one or more of the following areas of interest to the design of construction processes and management of construction projects, organizations, and the built environment: innovative project delivery systems; international construction; lean construction; industrial construction; project controls; human resource management; entrepreneurship and organizational issues; strategic planning and management; productivity; safety; sustainability; information technology; and automation.

The selected candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate classes, establish an active research program in the CEE Department, and conduct multi-disciplinary research and teaching activities with colleagues in other departments and colleges. The overall innovation and promise of the candidate's research area are of higher priority than the specific research area.
