3-month Summer Support

The three-month summer support form is for faculty requests for summer support exceeding two months or a summer appointment on funds other than a sponsored research grant or departmental account for instruction or administration.  Also, this form should be used if a faculty member wishes to change the terms of an already approved summer appointment plan.

Recall that only those faculty members that fund two months of summer salary from externally sponsored research will be permitted to fund a third month of summer salary from their research/discretionary accounts, provided that they meet all of the appropriate conditions for an appointment for a third month in the summer, with a work expectation appropriate for the duration and pay associated with the appointment, and have obtained the Department Chair and Dean's approval based on the Chair and Dean's judgment that the expenditure on salary is the best use of the faculty research account under the particular circumstances.

 

Procedure:

1.  Faculty members should fill out the form and submit it to the department chair for completion and approval.

2.  Unit administrators then prepare the submittal form in Wolverine Access for this appointment change.

3.  The department then forwards two copies of the 3-month and submittal forms to RPM (Rachel Long) for approval and processing with Central HR.
