National Academy of Engineering (NAE)

Key Deadlines (Approximate Dates)

  • April 3 - Re-nomination forms (if revised) and reference forms (if revised or a previous reference is being submitted with a new reference) are due
  • May 1 - New nomination forms are due
  • June 5 - New nomination reference forms are due
  • July 31 - Member comment forms are due
  • February 1- Completed ballots are due

There are seven prizes awarded by AAAS. With the exception of the Sarton Fellowship, nominations are accepted from Academy Fellows only. Applications for the Sarton Fellowship are solicited through the appropriate publications.

Institute of Medicine (IOM)

Up to 65 regular members and five foreign associates are elected to the Institute of Medicine each year. Only Institute of Medicine members may nominate individuals for election to membership and the nomination material is available only to members. The annual nomination cycle begins on November 1 and closes on February 1. The election takes place in late summer with new members announced in conjunction with the IOM Annual Meeting in October.

National Academy of Sciences (NAS)

Nominations typically accepted until September 15.

  • Alexander Agassiz Medal (Oceanography)
  • Arctowski Medal (solar physics)
  • John J. Carty Award for the Advancement of Science (physics)
  • Alexander Hollaender Award in Biophysics
  • Jessie Stevenson Kovalenko Medal (medical sciences)
  • National Academy of Sciences Award in Aeronautical Engineering
  • National Academy of Sciences Award in Chemical Sciences
  • National Academy of Sciences Award in Early Earth and Life Sciences
  • National Academy of Sciences Award for Initiatives in Research * (numerical methods), for citizens of the USA, preferably under the age of 35.
  • National Academy of Sciences Award for Molecular Biology *

For citizens of the USA age 45 and younger.

  • National Academy of Sciences Award in the Neurosciences
  • National Academy of Sciences Award for Scientific Reviewing (geosciences)
  • National Academy of Sciences Public Welfare Medal
  • Troland Research Awards * (psychology: two awards)

For researchers age 40 and younger.

  • G.K. Warren Prize (fluviatile geology)
  • James Craig Watson Medal (astronomy)

President's National Medal of Technology and Innovation

January Call for Nominations The deadline to nominate submissions is approximately May 29.Letters of recommendation must be received by the close of business (5:00 p.m. EST) on the due date.

National Medal of Science
