The Argo to Gallup canoe trip is a pleasant 1.5-hour paddle down the Huron River. After launching at Argo Park, the paddlers are required to make a portage around Argo Dam. (After reaching the end of a canal, paddlers must carry their boats up steps and down to the river--there should be staff there to help you with this.) Following the portage, it is an enjoyable float down to Gallup Park. Along the way, paddlers will encounter an abundance of wildlife in a natural setting as you paddle through the UM Arboretum and beautiful river parks.
The maximum capacity per canoe is 2 adults and up to 2 children (their combined weight needs to be under 100 pounds, and they have to be older than 1 year). You have the choice of either driving yourself to Argo Park, or you can opt to ride a charter bus from Pierpont Commons round-trip. For those of you driving yourselves, you can start canoeing from Argo Canoe Livery (1055 Longshore Dr.) anytime between 2:00 and 3:30. A van will transport you back from Gallup Park to Argo Park at the end.
Schedule for those riding buses:
Group 1
2:00 PM Bus will pick-up students on northbound Murfin in front of Pierpont Commons. At 2:15 PM, this bus will depart the Commons and drop-off students at Argo Canoe Livery.
4:30 PM Bus will pick-up students from Gallup Park. After getting out of your canoe, find the bus by following the sidewalk to the east for about 5 minutes until you reach the boat launch area (parking lot area east of Huron Pkwy.). At 4:45 PM, this bus will depart Gallup and drop-off students at Pierpont Commons.
Group 2
